Nicki Minaj Changed the Release Date of Her Album "Queen"

It's now out today.

Nicki Minaj has always been full of surprises, and when it comes to her forthcoming album, Queen, she’s got a very big one coming our way.

The album’s scheduled release date has been changed from August 17 to today, August 10, and will be available for your listening pleasure at 12 PM EST/9 AM EST, Variety reports. Talk about a truly epic start to the weekend.

According to Pitchfork, Nicki announced the change publicly on Thursday, August 9, during her “Queen Radio” show on Apple Music’s Beats 1, saying, “I was gonna play the album right now but someone fu**ked up. It's a lot of corporate drama in here.” She also revealed that she had finished the album only three hours before sharing the new release date news with fans.

This would mark the fourth time that Nicki has changed the album's release date. The album was previously scheduled for release on June 15, but was then pushed back to August 10, and was then switched again to August 17, Fader reported. The August 17th release would have been the same release day as her friend and frequent collaborator Ariana Grande’s much-anticipated album Sweetener.

The duo have worked together plenty of times in the past, including on Ari’s track “Side to Side” and Nicki’s new song, “Bed.” However, that didn’t mean there wasn't any drama surrounding the once dueling release dates; fans tried to pit the two against each other to no avail.

Both Ari and Nicki had tweeted about the situation, with Ariana saying, “That’s my f*cking sister. She’s clearing a sample. Buy and stream Queen & Sweetener Aug 17 bye. These numbers don’t mean as much to the artist as they do to y’all. Just want y’all to listen to the project."

Nicki later backed up Ari, writing, "I love this woman. Can’t wait for the fans to benefit from all the hard work on both ends," she wrote. "We love your passion. You guys will be VERY happy. Trust. That’s all I’ll say."

Clearly, the two musicians both have something major in store for us, and we’re glad we don’t have to wait any longer to hear what Nicki’s created on Queen. Plus, there’s just a week to go until Sweetener drops, which, ahem, sweetens this month of new music even more.
