It's coming up on a year since the world lost Aaron Carter, after the former teen idol was found dead at 34 from an accidental drowning at his Lancaster, California home on Nov. 5, 2022. And now, a year later, the wounds are still very fresh for Carter's older brother, Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys.

During a conversation with E! News this week to discuss new music, the 43-year-old got emotional when asked about the upcoming anniversary of losing his brother.

"It's still unbelievable to me," Carter said, immediately becoming choked up when talking about Aaron.  "When I think back and I get to these holidays like Halloween, and these are like moments and milestones and times when I've actually shared those memories with my brother and my family, good times. And even though I'm sharing it with my kids and my family now, there's still times when I sit by myself, or if I'm in my car, and I say to myself, this is unbelievable, like how is this—so I'm still processing the whole situation and trying to make sense of it, because it hasn't."

"Because no matter what he and I had gone through in our lives, we always were able to make amends; always were able to get back to that place. And now I can't anymore and it hurts," he continued, barely able to hold back tears. "I'm still just processing the whole thing. And sometimes you push it down because you don't want to think about it, and then that comes out like this."

Carter added that one day, he's hoping he can make sense of it all.

Aaron's death was made all the more tragic by the fact that he had just welcomed a child with his then-fiancée Melanie Martin barely a year beforehand. Immediately following the news of his brother's death last year, Nick broke down in tears while performing with the Backstreet Boys at the O2 Arena in London.
