After a hot, muggy New York Fashion Week defined by short hems and unseasonably sheer fabrics, all I want to wear are true fall outfits. The more cozy knitwear and creamy leather, the better. This week, the forecast cooperated with my urge to pile on fall dresses, striped sweaters, and leather boots. So did the brands stocked with the contents of my fall shopping wishlist, where the week's best sales are being held.

Fall bags, shoes, and clothing typically aren't marked down until Black Friday at the very earliest. Yet right now, new fall collections from contemporary and luxury designers are 25 percent off at Bergdorf Goodman and 20 percent off at Shopbop. Madewell is also offering 25 percent off its latest collection to members of its loyalty program—which I'm reading as an invitation to shop its low-key excellent boots and outerwear. Sales framed as "end of summer" deals are actually filled with pieces that work for fall as well, from 70 percent off Shrimps' whimsically printed dresses and skirts to Ganni's 30 percent savings on footwear, sweaters, and more.

I know how hard it is to find quality leather boots that can fit various calf sizes. When I saw that Madewell's best-selling knee-high boots with an extended shaft were included in its fall sale, I felt compelled to include them here. They're comfortable without compromising on design, as the sleek square toes and stacked heel prove.

Tate Skirt

This 70 percent off find from Shrimps is exactly what I want in a fall floral. There's whimsy and movement in the tiered shape, but it's grounded in cooler tones suitable for tights season. When fall really sets in, I'd swap the sleeveless sweater vest for a crewneck knit and a gray wrap coat.

Slim-Fit Cable Cardigan

Here's a hidden, understated gem from & Other Stories' massive 70 percent off sale: a creamy cable-knit cardigan with a removable belt. Wear it now with a big white maxi skirt and later with corduroy or wool trousers.

Crisscross Upsized Jeans

Asymmetric, doubled-up, and cut-out waistbands are a major denim trend for fall 2023. But the movement actually started seasons ago with forward-thinking denim brands including Agolde. When you wear this on-sale pair of Agolde's crisscross jeans, make sure it's with a cropped T-shirt or sweater (to show off that signature detail, of course).

Dough Fleece

Sandy Liang is now as known for her expert deployment of bow embellishments and her constantly sold-out ballet flats as she is for her original fleeces. But really, one of her snug jackets is the foundation of a warmer and more colorful fall wardrobe; this crimson rendition is included in Shopbop's fall sale.

Very few pieces were left in Maryam Nassir Zadeh's end-of-season sale by the time I was tipped off to its existence. White Mid Shaft Embroidered Western Boots

Between Copenhagen, New York, and London Fashion week, cowboy boots have been just as prevalent as ballet flats and comfortable loafers throughout street style. We'll have to see whether they keep up their winning streak in Milan and Paris—but three markets are enough to persuade me to shop Ganni's on-sale pair with stitching from a hand-drawn design.

Zip-Front Leather Jacket

This is still a relative splurge for a sale, but it's one I'm happy to make. Vince's sleek, streamlined aviator jacket is just the kind of fall outerwear that will complete an outfit instead of just concealing it.

Jack Dress

This is exactly the sort of dress I'd wear under the jacket above (or with a longline coat to mix up the proportions). It's one hundred percent silk, with a squiggly, snake-like print that'll speak to anyone in their Reputation era.

Logo Wool Mix Vest

My fall outfits can turn into stick-of-butter dressing if I'm not careful to incorporate some color. For anyone else seeking some brighter autumn tones and an invitation to get creative with layering, this stripe-and-logo vest that I saw in various colors all over fashion month is the answer. I'm envisioning it over an extra-large button-down and baggy jeans and sandwiched between a black long-sleeve T-shirt and a denim maxi skirt, for starters.
