Niall Horan Definitively Addressed the Selena Gomez Dating Rumors

Niall Horan and Selena Gomez may or may not have actually had a thing in 2015—they were reported to have made out at Jenna Dewan's birthday party ("Selena seemed super into it. And Niall even more so," a source told E! at the time), then Gomez friend-zoned him during a red carpet interview. But there's nothing going on in 2019, Horan would like you to know.

Dating rumors surfaced again in October 2019 after photos came out of the two posing alongside each other during a friend group dinner and Gomez going to his house. Gomez and Horan added a little more fuel to the fire by posting about each other on their Instagram Stories then.

Horan was asked about Gomez in two radio interviews. His first was in October. SiriusXM asked him if the two were together. "We're friends," Horan said, via PopBuzz. "We have the same group of friends." He explained that group, "We hang out all the time. The one photo that was ever taken got posted. We are good friends."

He also confirmed then that there was no duet coming. "No collaborations as of yet. I know she's been doing some music too. We were just out for dinner."

But in December, Horan made it even more clear that there's no secret romance with Gomez happening...or any other woman. During an interview with Australia's Hit 90.9 radio, a host told him that some fan girls asked them to "please ask him if he has a girlfriend because we’ve been looking at him tagging Selena Gomez on Instagram. So we’re going to ask the question on behalf of the girls."

"Do I have a girlfriend? I don’t," Horan replied. "No, I’m very much single. Very much single."

Horan explained he's focused on music right now, but if something happens, something happens. "I’m focusing on the job at the minute, but I mean it’s not like you ever go out of the way to properly look for it [a girlfriend]," he said. "If it comes to you, it comes to you. And if something falls in your way or you meet someone or whatever, then fair enough but yes, maybe, then you just kind of see what happens."

Horan once called Gomez his first celebrity crush. But in October, a source told E! that the two are in reality just really great friends. "Selena and Niall are not dating and have been hanging out as friends," the source said. "They have always been good friends and have kept in touch throughout the years."
