Who should be the next Superman? Yahoo readers have ideas as Henry Cavill exit rumors swirl

Despite being revived in last year’s “Justice League” movie, Superman appears to be dead. Not literally (he is the Man of Steel, after all), but multiple reports are indicating that Henry Cavill’s tenure as the last son of Krypton is over. Fans of Cavill are not happy that the Mission Impossible: Fallout star might not get another chance to be Clark Kent. “I thought Cavill was an awesome choice and really did make a good Kal El,” lamented one admirer. “Sad to see.” Another fan didn’t think he was the problem, “He's actually a superb Superman.” One other supporter went as far to call him the best ever: “It was hard to beat Christopher Reeve as Superman, but Henry Cavill did.” The latest report on Kal-El comes after talks broke down between Cavill and Warner Bros. over a cameo in Shazam, due out in 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter, WB is focusing on a Supergirl movie and shifting away from the older DCEU elements that haven’t worked (looking at you, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). So who should be the next Superman? Fans are feeling nostalgic, with many asking for a previous Smallville star to reprise the role. “Paging Tom Welling,” wrote one fan. Others want to see someone new don the red cape. Both Armie Hammer and Michael B. Jordan were popular choices in the original Yahoo Entertainment article. Some suggestions were a little more on the unconventional side. “Jamiroquai would make a splendid Superman,” said one commenter. “What about Steve Carell,” asked another. “Nicolas Cage has his opportunity,” one reader suggested. Nothing is official, with both Warner Bros. and Cavill’s agent, Dany Garcia, reiterating that Henry Cavill remains Superman...for now. Who do you want to see as the next Superman?
