*This* Is the Next Rug Type I’m Buying for My Small Apartment
If you’re like me, you have a love-hate relationship with rugs. Sure, they’re gorgeous design assets that add color, pattern, and texture to a room (bonus points if they’re plush under your feet!), but it can be hard to keep them feeling clean and brand new — especially if you live in a small space.
This scenario might sound familiar to small-space dwellers like me: You purchase a super fun rug, but because essentially everywhere in our apartments are high-traffic areas, these floor coverings become worn out much quicker because we have limited stepping spots.
So, when I learned how designer and visual artist Jake Poser, who owns the interior design firm Jake Poser Concept, combats this in his mid-century modern apartment in New York City’s Upper West Side neighborhood, I was immediately intrigued.
In Poser’s dining room, which happens to be his favorite space in the home, he used a traditional element, like a rug, in an untraditional way.
“We added in a West Elm set of table and chairs and my great grandma’s dining room hutch, which has now lived in three family homes in New York State. It was kismet that August’s love for green and my family’s hutch all worked together so well,” Poser described the dining room during the home tour. “The space is finished off with some artwork and an indoor/outdoor rug (a great trick for high traffic interior spaces) to define the space.”
It got me thinking: I should look in the outdoor sections if I wanted to have a durable rug that would last for a while. Poser’s indoor/outdoor rug, purchased from Amazon, proves they can be stylish and long-lasting.
