Sometimes the drama behind the scenes is better kept offscreen. Amber Sherlock, a news and weather presenter for the Nine Network in Australia, was recently caught on camera before a broadcast demanding that a fellow presenter for the network, Julie Snook, change her outfit because they were both wearing white.
Mumbrella News obtained the leaked footage of Sherlock having a fit over Snook’s wardrobe choice, eventually forcing the woman to put on a jacket.
The absurd segment opens with Sherlock saying, “I need Julie to put a jacket on because we’re all in white. I asked her before we came on. Julie, you need to put a jacket on.”
Snook replies that she has been too busy to change and apologizes to Sherlock, while guest psychologist Sandy Rea laughs uncomfortably and offers to put on a jacket herself. Sherlock assures her that her outfit is acceptable, saying, “You’re all right because you told me. It’s fine, Sandy, but there can’t be three of us, and I’ve made this clear two and a half hours ago.”
“If it’s an issue, I can get on out of here,” Snook says, while Sherlock informs her that it is in fact an issue that they are both wearing white dresses.
Sherlock directs her to go put a jacket on, insisting, “The wardrobe girls would be furious downstairs,” and even demands that the producers assist in the request for the outer garment.
The two continue to argue back and forth, with Sherlock repeating that she asked Snook to change her outfit two and a half hours earlier a number of times within the clip and Snook insisting that she forgot. Snook is eventually handed a jacket, which she graciously puts on.
The three women take on a professional manner and are seen smiling at one another as the station goes live at the end of the video.
Since the exchange went public, the two reporters involved have released statements to 9Honey, a leading women’s news network in Australia.
“Live TV can be a pretty stressful beast, at times,” Sherlock said. “And as anyone knows, it’s never much fun rocking up to work or to a party in the same outfit as one of your colleagues or friends. I probably overreacted with the pressure of presenting a live news bulletin.”
“Thank goodness we had psychologist Sandy Rea around afterwards!” she added. Snook also commented on the incident, saying, “What can I say? Amber and I just really love white!
“Amber and I are good friends, and I really enjoy working with her. News is a fast-moving environment and sometimes these things happen,” she revealed on the pair’s current status.
