News Channel Issues List Of Top 10 Snowy Ski Resorts This Season

Earlier this week, KSL 5 TV issued a list of the snowiest ski resorts so far this winter.

The list may or may not come as a surprise to you; just know that if you're a gambling person, Utah's always a safe bet.

Standing atop the list are three Utah resorts—Alta, Snowbird, and Brighton—located within a few miles of each other. Wyoming makes a strong appearance with the Ghee' and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, with Alaska sneaking in a lone contender.

The numbers, to me, mostly make sense and confirm a long-running suspicion I hold: no matter what the weather's doing nationally, the Cottonwood Canyons—where Alta, Snowbird, and Brighton reside—seem to do just fine.

In my corner of the country, Western Montana, we are hurting for snow. The story is similar over the border in Washington, where a recent mega-storm produced equal parts snow and rain. Lake Tahoe, too, has had a rough go at it thus far, with the East squeaking out a decent enough early season.

In summation, it's a mixed bag out there—I'd hesitate to say that any resort in the United States is really crushing it, aside from maybe Alyeska, which is notably absent from this list. The Alaskan resort reports a season snowfall total of 226 inches at the top of Glacier-Bowl Express, which would've earned it the number one position had it made the list. Maybe the list only focused on the lower 48? Who knows.

Anyways, as always, there are winners and losers this season when it comes to snowfall. For those still seeking that initial base coverage, I feel you. It'll happen when it happens.
