Mariah Carey welcomed the new year by doing something, well, new.

On Jan. 1, the “Queen of Christmas" posted a photo on Instagram of the left side of her face along with the caption, “New year, new beginnings..taking a picture from my “bad side!” In the photo, Carey is wearing a sparkly Retrofête mini dress and her hair is styled in long curls.

Fans of the superstar, 54, were quick to praise the photo, including Tamar Braxton who wrote, “You will never have a bad side MC.”

On her 2016 year reality show, Mariah's World, Carey revealed the origin of her aversion to showing her left side of her face.

She explained to her longtime makeup artist Kristofer Buckle that when she was 19 and doing her first photo shoot, a woman on the set told her, "This is your good side, only let people photograph you from your good side, ever." From then on, Carey said she "didn't like" pictures from her left side.

It's been a season of change for Carey, who recently split from her boyfriend of seven years, Bryan Tanaka. On Dec. 26, Tanaka, 40, confirmed he and the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" singer had broken up in a lengthy social media post.

She also turned the streets of Aspen into her own personal runway during a shopping trip on Dec. 19, stepping out in a white peplum mini skirt, white opaque tights, a form-fitting white top, a pair of platform sherpa-lined knee-high boots and a Prada Re-Nylon cropped convertible down jacket that retails for $2,500.

Before heading to Aspen, Carey visited the nation's capital with her two kids. She shared photos on Instagram of her visit to the White House, taking her 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe along with her. The family of three could be seen chatting with President Biden in the Oval Office, with Monroe holding hands with her mom on one side and Moroccan posing on the other.

Carey also met Vice President Harris and got a look at the Christmas decorations inside the White House, posing with her three kids in front of a Christmas tree.
