The Newest Royal Baby's Name Holds Meaningful Historical Significance
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's son's moniker honors both of his parents' families.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are overjoyed after their son's arrival, and they are ready to share even more about their family of three: "We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank," a recent post read on Instagram. They are both seen holding and smiling at their little one in a slideshow of photos.
"Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can't express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you," Princess Eugenie said, also mentioning that their midwife took the sweet pictures.
The royal couple's son's name was actually culled from a long line of royal family members' monikers. "He is named after his great-grandfather and both of his great xfive grandfathers," Princess Eugenie added. August comes from her fourth great-grandfather, Albert, the Prince Consort and husband of Queen Victoria, Insider reveals. His full name was Prince Franz August Karl Albert Emanuel. Plus, the newborn's middle name is a nod to a royal in Princess Eugenie's family: Prince Philip, her grandfather. The royal pair also paid homage to Jack's side; "Hawke" (the baby's second middle name) was inspired by Jack's relative from the 1700s, Reverend Edward Hawke Brooksbank.
While they are still settling in as new parents, the couple also wanted to express their gratitude for all of the warm wishes they have received over the last few weeks. "Thank you for so many wonderful messages," Princess Eugenie continued, also sharing her appreciation for the medical staff on the frontlines. "Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy."
