Dessert is often the best part of dinner, and for many people the best dessert of all is something sweet and frozen as a finishing touch on a hearty meal. This frozen treat may include a treat of ice cream or, if you’re feeling fancy, gelato.

Gelato always feels sort of like ice cream’s more elegant cousin, and it’s good to know we don’t have to be at a fancy dessert spot in Italy to enjoy it. Aldi has brought back their Sundae Shoppe Gelato Flight just in time for the holidays, with holiday-themed flavors that include pumpkin pie, candy cane, and eggnog.

Gelato is different from ice cream in several ways, from its denser texture to its higher milk-to-cream ratio, which gives it less butterfat. This all makes it feel silky and smooth on the tongue, but just as luxurious and delicious as ice cream — in fact, to many, even more decadent! An interesting additional fact about gelato is that it usually doesn’t involve egg as an ingredient, while ice cream sometimes does (in this flight, though, one of the flavors absolutely involves eggs in the gelato, in the form of eggnog).

Flights are fun because you can enjoy a small amount of various flavors rather than committing to one flavor. And it’s not just reserved for wine or cheese tastings! Why not have a gelato flight? It could also be a fun activity with friends or family over the holidays, as you all share a flight of gelato and then discuss your favorite flavors.

The Sundae Shoppe Gelato Flight is a current Aldi Find and available for a limited time at $3.99.
