New York gym offering naked workout classes — just in time for your New Year's resolutions

Those looking to get buff after the holidays can do so in the buff at an enterprising gym in New York City.

Hanson Fitness, which boasts celebrity clients like Rihanna, Julia Roberts, and Tom Cruise, will offer personal training sessions where you’ll work out while completely naked.

“Working out without clothes provides a number of benefits to your exercise including skin breathing, the release of endorphins due to Vitamin D from sunlight and complete body awareness so you can see if you’re cheating on your exercise routines,” says Hanson Fitness in a post on Facebook.

The first classes — men’s, women’s, and coed — are scheduled for Feb. 5.

“Our approach makes sure our members get and stay in the absolute best shape, and our new naked personal fitness sessions are no exception,” says Hanson Fitness founder Harry Hanson. “This new development brings with it a range of fitness and health benefits and allows our members to have a little cheeky fun in the process!”

Those not completely comfortable working out in the buff have the option of wearing nude-colored underwear.

Hanson’s is not technically the first to offer a naked workout routine, but it will be the first to host co-ed classes. NDK Training in the U.K. offers a naked workout but is for men only and overall is oriented to a gay and bisexual clientele, according to the website.

For those more into yoga than weight training, there’s an all nude yoga studio, Bold and Naked, located in midtown Manhattan.

On Instagram there’s even an entire account dedicated to yogic practices done in the buff. Nude Yoga Girl boasts almost a million followers on the platform:

But are there actual health benefits to working out while nude? A range of sources say that working out au naturel comes with the added benefits of making you cooler, allowing you to see your muscle groups in action, and saving you time washing your soiled sweats.

The ancient Greeks did all athletic pursuits while nude, and even the word “gymnasium” is derived from the greek “gymnós,” which means “naked.”
