Martyn Lawrence Bullard is one of those rarified figures nowadays — the celebrity interior designer. Both a design guru to the stars and a celeb in his own right, Bullard is consistently named as one of the world’s top 100 interior designers by Architectural Digest. Over the years he has also been a fixture on Elle Decor’s A-List and has been named one of the top 25 designers by The Hollywood Reporter. Not only gracing the pages of magazines, Martyn has also starred in the hit Bravo series Million Dollar Decorators and Channel 4's Hollywood Me in the UK, along with a multitude of design television programs spanning over 65 countries. In 2020, Bullard even guest-judged on RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars!

Bullard sat down with us to share some of the design tips and products that he swears by, and how just about everyone can elevate their homes in the new year with both style and ease.

For an elevated sense of design on any boring wall in your home, Bullard recommends creating your own customized gallery wall. "[You can] create a little edgy moment, a little glamour, by adding photography to make this amazing gallery wall...it's something that's really easy for you to achieve at home."
For the perfect photos to assemble your ideal look, Bullard points to the Condé Nast store. "You can buy [images] that really resonate with you, frame them up, and make this incredible window into your own decorative soul."
Nakleo Reusable Plastic Stencils
"For Tommy Hilfiger and his very adventurous wife Dee, we created this amazing polka-dot room by buying stencils of giant circles and kind of randomly putting them up all over the walls," shares Bullard. He invites anyone to give the technique a try for themselves, too!
"You can take any design that you love — maybe it's a circle, maybe it's a square — and create your own vibe with it." We've found that Nakleo has some great options for wall-ready stencils, and even better, they're reusable!
Wall-Mount Bookshelf Pot Rack
If you want to make a statement in your kitchen while maximizing your space, a wall-mount bookshelf pot rack might be the ticket for you.
When trying to figure out how to create storage without many cabinets in Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo's kitchen enclave, Bullard realized that creating art out of necessary pots and pans was a way he could take care of 2 birds with 1 stone. "It became the most useful way to display and use her incredible pots." He also shares this bit of useful advice: "Think about the thing you love most about your kitchen, and go for that color, and make a statement!"

"To me, the jewelry of our living rooms is really how we dress the windows," Bullard notes. "[It] inspired me to create a collection with The Shade Store of beautiful new fabrics that really allow you to make your windows sparkle in the space."
Equal parts eclectic and sophisticated, Bullard's designer window treatment collection takes its cues from his extensive travel experiences around the globe, drawing inspiration from environments ranging from the streets of Tangier to the runways of Paris.
