Never forget when Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson dated each other

Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson are two of the most talented young actors in Hollywood. They’ve both played leading roles in two of the world’s most-loved franchises, and they appeared alongside each other in the film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. But the similarities don’t stop there.

Did you know Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson used to date?

A few years ago, word of their past romance was awkwardly revealed to the world during an interview on TODAY in Australia. Skip to 3:20 for the part where the anchors ask them how long they’ve been dating.

“We’re not… No. We were at one point, but she broke my heart,” Josh joked. “I’m just kidding. That was a while ago, we’re just really good friends now.”

Let’s do a little detective work. Vanessa split with her ex Zac Efron in December of 2010. She and Josh gave this interview just before Journey 2 was released in February of 2012. So it was probably sometime in 2011, right after they met on set of Journey 2, that Vanessa and Josh dated. We can totally see it! But, like Josh said, they’re just good friends now.

How did things end? A few years ago, Josh insinuated to Seventeen that Vanessa did the dumping.

“I think getting broken up with is worse than breaking up with somebody. For me it hurts more when you’re ready for something to keep going and the other person isn’t,” he told the magazine. “I was blind at first by looks, by love, whatever. I’ve been known to fall hard and quick for girls, which I think is better than not falling at all.”

Ouch! Fortunately, everything worked out for the best. These days Vanessa is serious with her boyfriend Austin Butler, an actor you remember from The Carrie Diaries. And Josh is still going strong with his longtime girlfriend Claudia Traisac. Their past flight is just that—in the past. But still, we must #neverforget.
