This post contains spoilers for Season 4 of Never Have I Ever.

Devi Vishwakumar dreams about going to Princeton, but she also dreams about boys—and in the final season of Never Have I Ever, there’s a new guy catching her eye. Enter Ethan, a mischievous skater boy played by Michael Cimino. If Devi thought she had nothing in common with Paxton, then Ethan may as well be from another planet. He has zero interest in school, he has pierced ears and he commits actual crimes. Sounds like the perfect match for a girl trying to get accepted to an Ivy League!

“I’d say [I’m shaking things up] for the long-term, better, but for the short-term, way worse,” Cimino told J-14 of his character at the show’s Season 4 premiere event in June 2023.

Showrunner Lang Fisher, meanwhile, described Ethan as “a whole different kind of character” from Devi’s previous crushes. “He’s like the opposite of Des,” Fisher told The Wrap in August 2022, referring to Devi’s Season 3 love interest. “He is a true bad boy, like bad at school, kind of gets in trouble a lot. He’s a thirst trap in a different way. He’s someone who [Devi] thinks is a degenerate but can’t help but be like, ‘Well, he is incredibly hot.’”

Devi’s romance with Ethan is—spoiler alert—short-lived, but Cimino’s star isn’t likely to fade soon. Keep reading for more info about Sherman Oaks High School’s newest heartthrob.

Who plays Ethan on Never Have I Ever?

Michael Cimino plays Ethan in Season 4 of Never Have I Ever, which dropped on Netflix on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Before the premiere, fans got a glimpse of what Ethan would be bringing to the table in a Season 4 teaser that showed him nearly taking off his shirt in the halls of Sherman Oaks High. “When did his torso get so … clawable?” Eleanor asks of the Hot Pocket’s new chief.

Cimino, who was cast in the show in September 2022, may look familiar to fans of Love, Victor, the Hulu series where he played lead character Victor Salazar. Born and raised in Las Vegas, Cimino began his acting career as a teen after a scout noticed him while he was having lunch in a Subway restaurant. “I was too young to drive, so my mom would drive from Vegas to L.A. and back, every time I had an audition,” Cimino told Hero in June 2021. “We did a lot of that for years and years. I booked some stuff but nothing crazy.” At age 18, Cimino moved to Los Angeles full-time, and from there his career really started to take off.

Before landing the role of Ethan on Never Have I Ever, Cimino played the titular role in Love, Victor, which aired on Hulu from 2020 to 2022. The series was a spinoff of the 2018 film Love, Simon and followed a high school student named Victor Salazar as he struggled to come to terms with his sexual identity.

Ahead of the Love, Victor premiere, Cimino said he felt “really honored” to play Victor, who worries about how his parents will react when he tells them he’s gay. “I do feel like some people will be able to relate to this story in particular because a lot of people haven’t had the blessings to know exactly what decision they were making,” Cimino told Good Morning America in 2020. “I hope that this show inspires people to be who they are authentically and with no regrets. I think that’s really what this show is about.”

Cimino’s other roles include Bob Palmeri in 2019’s Annabelle Comes Home and Lance in 2022’s Senior Year. In early 2023, he appeared in How I Met Your Father as a character named Swish. He’s also a successful voice actor, playing Kevin Grant-Gomez on DIsney’s Hamster & Gretel since 2022.

In addition to acting, Cimino is a singer and has released several singles, including “Stole Me” and “Make Me Wanna Dance.” In November 2022, he released his debut EP, titled I’m Somewhere Out There. “Thank you guys for waiting SO patiently,” he told his Instagram followers one day before the EP’s debut. “I’ve been saving this for a long ass time and I’m so excited for you guys to finally hear it.”

How old is Michael Cimino?

Michael Cimino was born on Nov. 10, 1999, making him 23 years old.

Does Michael Cimino have a girlfriend?

Cimino has stayed relatively quiet about his personal life, and if he’s currently dating anyone, he hasn’t said. He seemingly dated fellow actor Mava Gomez before Love, Victor premiered, but they haven’t shared any photos together since 2019.

Cimino has also been outspoken about the importance of allowing actors to keep their personal lives private if they so choose. “Just because someone is in the limelight doesn’t mean that you have to force them to come out and force them to do anything,” he told Metro in June 2022 after Heartstopper actor Kit Connor said he felt forced to come out as bisexual. “No one owes anybody anything in this industry, and so if someone is still learning how to navigate their sexuality or whatever the case may be, they shouldn’t have to be like, ‘Yes! This is who I am’ if they’re not sure about it yet."

Unfortunately for Ethan superfans, he doesn’t end up with Devi—or Eleanor—in Season 4 of Never Have I Ever. After Eleanor and Devi settle their disagreement over liking him at the same time, Devi briefly dates (and has lots of sex with!) Ethan, but she dumps him after learning that he stole the wallet of the Princeton rep she was trying to impress at the college fair.

How to follow Michael Cimino on Instagram

Michael Cimino posts on Instagram under the handle @itsmichaelcimino, and his account should be catnip for Never Have I Ever fans wishing he had a larger role in Season 4. He posts tons of snaps—including shirtless ones—from various fashion shoots, and he shares news about his music as well. He may not be a bad boy in real life, but that vibe definitely comes through in some of his photos. “It’s like kinda like a mugshot but… Cooler?” he joked in the caption of one set that showed him staring into the lens and wearing a Harley-Davidson T-shirt. If Devi could see these, she would faint.
