'Virgin River' Season 2 is Here and We Are NOT Prepared for the Drama

From Country Living

  • The first season of this heartfelt Netflix drama premiered in December 2019.

  • Netflix confirmed that season 2 is airing on November 27, 2020, and season 3 is reportedly in the works.

  • The show is based on the Virgin River book series by Robyn Carr. The 21st book in the series was released on October 13.

Virgin River premiered on December 6, 2019, and Netflix viewers fell in love with the story of nurse practitioner/midwife Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who moves to northern California to escape her heartbreaking past. She quickly discovers that small-town life is not what she expected when she meets the surly local doctor/her new boss, Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson), the meddling mayor, Hope (Annette O'Toole), and former Marine/local bar owner/potential love interest, Jack (Martin Henderson).

The season includes plenty of medical drama, a baker with a mysterious past, and a glimpse into the seedy underground pot-growing industry of Northern California. There is truly something for everyone. The season ends on a cliff-hanger with Mel calling her sister and telling her she's returning home to L.A., leaving viewers eagerly waiting for season 2!

If you haven't watched Season 1, be warned! Spoilers ahead!

What happened at the end of season 1?

So much! Mel finally tells Jack about her husband and baby, they go on a date, and then he discovers that his ex-girlfriend is pregnant. Hope and Doc Mullins reconnect. Bartender Preacher (Colin Lawrence) figures out the mysterious past of baker Paige (Lexa Doig), and then she and her son disappear. Jack's friend and erstwhile employee Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth) seemingly gets involved with local drug dealers. The season ends with a tearful Mel packing her bags to return to L.A., and viewers have questions.

When is the season 2 release date?

The filming for season 2 wrapped earlier this year, and it will again have 10 episodes. The show's official Instagram feed recently promised they'll have an official date "Hopefully soon," and on October 21, they finally confirmed the launch date for season 2: November 27, 2020. (Otherwise known as the day after Thanksgiving! We know what we're doing that weekend...)

Is there a season 2 trailer?

Yes, finally! Netflix released a sneak peek of the new season on Thursday, October 29. The footage shows additional drama between Mel and Jack (say it isn't so!), as Charmaine's pregnancy progresses and their relationship is tested.

Fans were quick to leave comments on the video expressing their excitement, like "Hallelujah! Thank you Netflix!" and "YESSSSS FINALLY."

We don't know what the season holds, but we know it will be dramatic if this trailer means anything about what's to come!

What has the cast said about season 2?

Alexandra Breckenridge (you recognize her from This Is Us) and Martin Henderson teased season 2 shortly after season 1 was released on Netflix.

Breckenridge also posted this behind-the-scenes time lapse video of filming in progress in Mel's cabin. We've scoured it for clues and have found...nothing.

Benjamin Hollingsworth, who plays Brady, promises "More Brady = More Trouble" in season 2.

Will the entire cast return for season 2?

It looks like the main cast will all return for the second season. Plus you can expect a visit from Preacher and Jack's Marine buddies, plus the introduction of Mel's sister-in-law, Stacie, and troubled teenager Lizzie.
