Netflix’s New Show Blood & Water Will Absolutely Be the Next Gossip Girl

While you’re waiting for Gossip Girl to arrive on HBO Max—and for the reboot to start production—I have a show that will scratch your itch: Blood & Water, Netflix’s new teen drama that’s serving some major Upper East Side vibes.

The trailer for Blood & Water dropped on Monday, May 11, and it has everything that made you so addicted to GG: prep school kids in impossibly chic uniforms, scandalous drama, and vacant mean-girl stares. Set in South Africa, this new show centers on a teen girl who sets out to prove whether a swimming star at her elite school is actually her sister who was abducted at birth.

Check out the trailer for yourself, below:

“Set in the surroundings of Parkhurst College, the prestigious inner-city school for elite scholars and academic overachievers, Blood & Water follows the exploits of 16-year-old Puleng Khumalo (Ama Qamata), as she engineers her transfer to the school to investigate the 17-year-old cold case of the abducted-at-birth older sister she’s never met,” reads an official description of the show from Netflix’s press site.

Qamata shared the show’s trailer to her Instagram page on May 11, writing, “Welcome to the jungle...It’s about to get hectic.”

From this short preview alone, you can see parallels to so many teen shows. The Gossip Girl comparisons are the strongest, of course, but I’m also picking up some serious Elite vibes. And the crime at the center of it will no doubt intrigue fans of Riverdale and other teen fare that has some teeth. Why do I have a feeling this show’s going to suck me in and not let go until 3 a.m.? I went through the same thing with Outer Banks in April, and I can’t wait to do it all over again.

Blood & Water hits Netflix streaming on May 20.
