Netflix's 'Cyberpunk 2077' Anime Receives Its First Official Trailer

Almost two years since the project's original announcement, CD Project Red and Netflix have finally released the first teaser trailer for the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The series itself will feature a standalone 10-episode season with Kill la Kill and Little Witch Academia studio Trigger working in partnership with the Polish video game developer to produce the show. While Edgerunners won't tie in directly with the plot of Cyberpunk 2077, the story will take place in the same Night City players have gotten to know through their adventures with Keanu Reeves' Johnny Silverhand.

According to the synopsis, the upcoming anime title will follow a street kid who tries to survive in the crime-ridden city by becoming a mercenary outlaw, also known as an edgerunner or cyberpunk. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's Rafal Jaki serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Gurren Lagann director Hiroyuki Imaishi, who's helming the project. To top things off, the team also recruited Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka for the series' original score.

There's currently no precise release date yet for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, but it's scheduled to premiere on Netflix sometime this September.

Elsewhere in the world of anime, Netflix has announced a new anime series from Junji Ito named Maniac: Tales of the Macabre.
