Netflix's "Blood & Water" Trailer Teases "Gossip Girl" Meets "Elite" Set in South Africa

Blood & Water might be your next favorite show if you’ve already speeded your way through everything Netflix has on offer and are currently on the 17th rewatch of Gossip Girl (which, same). The streaming service just dropped the trailer for the series, which already looks like it will join the pantheon of shows that feature plenty of suspense, drama, and private school uniforms. You know you already love it.

The teaser for Blood & Water drops us right into the center of all the action: Puleng Khumalo (Ama Qamata) is a new student trying to navigate her Cape Town school, when she crosses paths with Fikile Bhele (Khosi Ngema), whom the other students praise as “a genuine influencer.” They click almost immediately, and it’s a connection Puleng feels she needs: “My friends don’t even know the real me,” she says, “and with Fikile, I have a fresh start.”

But she may have gotten more than she bargained for, given the 1 minute and 13 second clip features everything from police cars to fights in the quad, looks on looks, plenty of steamy encounters, and the assertion that “rich people can’t be dodgy.” As the official Netflix logline suggests, there’s even more to the intrigue than that: Puleng’s ultimate aim may be to find out “whether a private-school swimming star is her sister who was abducted at birth.”

Netflix's second African Original series, fans of the service are already gearing up to be obsessed. “Really excited for this💃💃💃💃 my country South Africa,” one viewer wrote in the YouTube comments. Blood & Water drops May 20, and it promises to be — in a word — hectic.
