Growing up, you may have been a fan of the bestselling book series, The Baby-Sitters Club, written by Ann M. Martin, and if so, you probably already binge-watched all 10 episodes of the new Netflix series based on the novels. At House Beautiful, we’re obsessing over the interior design of the show, specifically each of the girls’ bedrooms, all of which perfectly suit each character and their personal style. We spoke to production designer TINK to find out what inspired the decor of Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, Stacey, and Dawn’s rooms.

TINK worked in collaboration with set decorator Victoria Soderholm and art director Alyssa King to create the vibrant interior design seen on The Baby-Sitters Club. “Over the course of a month or so, my set decorator Victoria Soderholm and her team shopped far and wide throughout the metro Vancouver area and also further abroad for specific items," TINK tells House Beautiful. "They sourced both new and used items, based on what served each character best. In addition, my art director Alyssa King and her team produced all the original artwork in each room."

It only made sense to look to The Baby-Sitters Club books for inspiration when coming up with the design for this show. "The books played a big part in the decor of each room," TINK confirms. "We researched each of the characters thoroughly, noting various story points in their past which would affect how they present themselves and their rooms.” So here's what went into the design of each of the girls’ bedrooms:

Claudia

Claudia’s bedroom is “a room of visual inspiration and artwork in process," says TINK. "This is the main room of the show and as such I wanted to give it a strong visual signature." The team designed the room "to feature a large dormer window, which is painted a light accent green to [compliment] the surrounding lilac walls. It provides a central focus for the camera to frame all the girls sitting around the phone when they’re working it. Claudia’s room evolves over the episodes as she is constantly creating new projects and experimenting with what she likes."

Mary Anne

This room looks like it came right out of a pastel dollhouse, complete with a portrait of Humpty Dumpty right above Mary Anne’s bed. “Her room was decorated by her parents as a nursery and kept that way by her father as a keepsake memory of her mother who passed away shortly after Mary Anne’s birth," explains TINK. "This is addressed in an early episode where Mary Anne wants to grow out of her childish image and finds a way to do so while still honoring the memory of her Mom."

Stacey

"Stacey's room is all about fashion and current fresh decor," says TINK. "Her mom is an interior designer and with Stacey’s love for fashion, plus design details, she’s put that all into a beautiful room that is the envy of most girls.”

Dawn

Dawn’s room has a charming enclave made possible by a bay window, complete with various colorful sheers and house plants. It’s a “very holistic and natural” room that reflects “her ethical values," TINK shares. "She has incorporated numerous pre-used items into the decor which have been repurposed into some very cool items. Her room is fresh and full of light, very much like her character."

Kristy

This is a “basic, sports oriented room” because Kristy “doesn’t spend too much time there and isn’t too focused on decor," explains the designer. "Many of the items in her room have been handed down from her older brothers." There’s sports memorabilia all throughout Kristy’s room, and the light blue walls and curtains provide a nice neutral color palette to help compliment the wooden shelves.

So, which room is your favorite?
