Netflix Is Transporting NYC's Little Italy Back to 1975 — and There Will Be Free Food to Celebrate

There’s no better place to celebrate a new Scorsese film than in Little Italy. And the New York City neighborhood is playing host to something very special in honor of the director’s latest film.

According to Gothamist, Netflix will be “taking over” the NYC neighborhood of Little Italy between Nov. 22 and 23 to celebrate Martin Scorsese’s film, "The Irishman." The film is currently running a limited release in theaters before hitting Netflix on Nov. 27.

In honor of the new release, Netflix will be transforming the neighborhood “back to Aug. 1, 1975 — the day after Jimmy Hoffa was reported missing.” This happens to be an important plot point in the film.

Movie fans and history buffs alike are practically guaranteed to love this special event.

On Friday and Saturday, participating locations, including city favorites like Parm, Ferrara Bakery & Cafe, Caffe Roma, and Sal’s Little Italy, will be offering “complimentary food, favors, interactive stations, and more surprises,” Netflix said in a statement. According to Time Out, visitors can also anticipate some “gangster theatrics” as well. In addition, visitors will be able to see classic cars, old newspapers, and other vintage decor on the streets.

In order to cash in on these specials, visitors must use the phrase, “Just tell ‘em Jimmy sent you” at each location noted on a special map released by the company.

Netflix added that quantities are limited and are on a “first come first served basis,” according to Gothamist. The neighborhood “take over” will only last between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

This isn’t the first massive promotion Netflix has put on for a new movie release. According to Time Out, the company also set up a “residency” for Noah Baumbach at the Metrograph in New York City, in honor of his latest film, "Marriage Story." Visitors were able to take home special posters and pins from the film.
