Netflix Releases First Teaser Trailer for Sci-Fi Epic ‘3 Body Problem’

Netflix has offered viewers a preliminary glimpse at its upcoming science fiction series, 3 Body Problem. Based on Liu Cixin’s trilogy of books by the same name, the show is notably being helmed by the Game of Thrones adaptation co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, along with Alexander Woo.

A teaser for 3 Body Problem premiered for the streamer’s Tudum fan event on Saturday, January 17. Fans of the sci-fi epic have been waiting years for it to come to television since the adaptation was first announced in 2020. The brief trailer video offers a look into an eerie alternate future, but for those who haven’t read the book, offers little in terms of how the show’s plot will unfold.

“A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time to a group of brilliant scientists in the present day,” Netflix’s official synopsis reads. “As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, five former colleagues reunite to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history.”

Glass Onion director Rian Johnson will serve on the team of producers. Among the cast is Jess Hong, Benedict Wong, Eiza González, Jovan Adepo, Alex Sharp, John Bradley, Saamer Usmani, Liam Cunningham, Rosalind Chao, Jonathan Pryce, Marlo Kelly, Sea Shimooka, Ben Schnetzer and Zine Tseng.

3 Body Problem will be released as eight installments of hour-long episodes. The show will debut on the streamer in January 2024.
