Netflix Has Made a Breaking Bad Movie

Six years ago, Breaking Bad ended. As far was TV show finales go, it was pretty strong—even if the writers had a lot of other ideas for how it all could have ended—and it inspired one of the best spin-offs of all time, Better Call Saul.

Breaking Bad's finale also left some questions wide open, not to mention speculation that those loose ends might be enough to bring the show back at some point. Now, 10 years after the series premiered on AMC, showrunner Vince Gilligan is ready to revisit it. On Saturday, the New York Times reported that Netflix has indeed produced a follow-up Breaking Bad movie, El Camino, about Jesse Pinkman's fate in the aftermath of the show's climax.

Aaron Paul, who played Pinkman, told the Times that Gilligan called him two years ago to discuss ways to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the show's premiere. "At the very end of the conversation, he mentioned that he had an idea of where to take it from here, and he wanted to hear my thoughts on it. I quickly told Vince that I would follow him into a fire," Paul said. After reading the script, he lost all his doubts about revisiting the character: "I couldn’t speak for a good 30, 60 seconds. I was just lost in my thoughts. As the guy who played the guy, I was so happy that Vince wanted to take me on this journey."

The news was accompanied by a teaser, starring Skinny Pete looking skinny as ever. Otherwise, we know nothing about the plot, save that it takes place after Jesse finally escaped from meth-dealing neo-Nazis.

El Camino will premiere on Netflix in October.
