Netflix live action One Piece

Netflix’s live-action One Piece got off to a great start, attracting millions of viewers and getting glowing praise from just about everyone who watched it. Having introduced One Piece to a whole new audience, it looks like other parts of the One Piece empire are about to cash in on its success.

Bandai Namco announced via its website that new trading cards featuring character shots from Netflix’s One Piece will be coming to the One Piece card game next year. Nine cards in total will be available, each featuring one of the characters from the series in what appears to be their official promotional shots.

Here’s the full list of cards and characters featured:

  • Monkey D. Luffy (x2)

  • Roronoa Zoro

  • Nami

  • Usopp

  • Sanji

  • Dracule Mihawk

  • Arlong

  • Shanks

Bandai says that each of these cards is an alternate illustration version of an already released card, meaning players of the card game will be able to use them in their decks without much trouble. It seems like playing with the cards might not be the main draw here though — Bandai is angling it more at collectors than players.

The first clue is that it’s being released under the Premium Bandai label, which is typically used for collectibles like statues and higher-end model kits. The second clue is the price — you’ll get all nine cards with no repeats in the pack, but it’ll set you back $25 USD for the privilege.

For a point of reference, a normal One Piece card game booster pack contains 12 cards, and costs a grand total of $4.49. That means you’re essentially paying five times as much for fewer cards if you buy these live-action-inspired cards.

Preorders are open now for the premium collection on Premium Bandai’s website, and will close on November 12, 2023 at 9:00am EST. The cards will then ship in April 2024, some five months after preorders close.
