The Crown is making its long-awaited return to Netflix on November 16 for its sixth season, and apparently there's already controversy several weeks out. Mostly due to a report from The Telegraph that the show chose to include a scene with Princess Diana's "ghost."

According to the outlet, the late Princess will be "shown talking to the then Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth in the days after her death." Apparently, she thanks Prince Charles for breaking down and crying at the morgue in Paris, saying “Thank you for how you were in hospital. So raw, broken—and handsome. I’ll take that with me.” Meanwhile, the Daily Mail claims she also says "You know I loved you so much. So deeply, so painfully too. That's over now... It will be easier for everyone with me gone."

The Telegraph additionally reports that the ghost of Princess Diana also appears in a scene with the Queen, saying “As long as anyone can remember, you’ve taught us what it means to be British. Maybe it’s time to show you’re ready to learn too.”

The reaction to this has, understandably, not been the best, but Netflix "insiders" tell The Telegraph that the scenes in question were handled with sensitivity in mind. As one Netflix source put it, “After her death, Diana appears as part of an inner dialogue in separate scenes with Prince Charles and the Queen who are both reflecting on their relationship with the late Princess. These sensitive and thoughtful imagined conversations seek to bring to life the depth of emotion that was felt after such a seismic tragedy struck at the heart of the family.”

As for how the royals feel, an insider tells the Daily Mail that the move will be considered in poor taste as "deeply painful memories for members of the family are reduced to sensationalism."
