Netflix ‘Dahmer' Series Drops ‘LGBTQ+’ Tag After Outraging Fans
The streamer–and the series–have people upset.
Last week, Netflix dropped a new true crime series—DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story—and this week, it elected to drop one of the show's tags.
The decision came after Netflix subscribers used social media to express disappointment and anger amid the company's choice of labels for the series.
When the streamer initially released the dramatized limited series about Jeffrey Dahmer's horrific crimes on Sept. 21, one of its tags included "LGBTQ," which not only confused some fans but infuriated others who were not happy that the company did not consider that the tag's implications could be used as fuel for homophobia, and also due to Netflix's recent decision to cut projects that uplifted the LGBTQ community and creators.
"Do you people not know the history of associating deplorable acts with queerness and how that is used to oppress ppl," one Twitter user explained.
Someone else also took the time to explain why they believed the label was in poor taste, writing, "Lololo that’s hysterical by Netflix. Slapping the LGBTQ tag on Dahmer like “Looking for LGBTQ content?? Well boy do we have the show for you! Where every episode another LGBTQ person gets massacred & eaten! It’s like saying Schindler’s List is a family flick for Jewish people."

"The fact that they have this Dahmer docuseries under LGBT is really taking me OUT," someone else wrote.
Netflix did not say why it removed the label (or offer reasoning as to why it was added in the first place), but as of writing, the series is only tagged as "Crime TV Shows," "Social Issue TV Dramas," "TV Dramas," and "TV Horror."
