Netflix struck gold with its adaptation of Castlevania, which started in 2017 and ran its final season in 2021. The series was extremely well received, attracting 30 million viewers before the launch of its second season and receiving glowing reviews across the board.

Castlevania was initially loosely based on Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse, before picking out bits of pieces from Curse of Darkness and the famous Symphony of the Night in later seasons. Alucard in particular got a lot of attention from fans for his role in the series, and the resident Belmont, Trevor, had a wonderful story to tell.

Sadly, all good stories must come to an end… which is where spinoffs and sequels come into play. Enter Castlevania Nocturne, a brand-new series from the minds and production studios behind the first Castlevania series.

This time, we’ll be following Richter Belmont, the protagonist from Rondo of Blood who later appeared in, well, just about every other Castlevania game since. He even made an appearance in Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, an excellent DLC for an incredible game.

Another character who showed up in Dead Cells was Maria Renard, one of the most popular characters in the Castlevania series among fans. And yup, she’ll be in Castlevania Nocturne too, which is sure to delight just about every Castlevania fan.

So far, all we have for Castlevania Nocturne is a very brief teaser, showing Richter and his gorgeous new design with his back turned to the camera. That’s about all we know — there are very few details, with little to no plot revealed so far. We don’t even know which games it’ll be based on, if any.

We do, at least, have a release date, though. Castlevania Nocturne will be released on Netflix on September 28, 2023. That’s a lot closer than any of us thought, so keep an eye out for it, it’s likely to be a blast.
