Neosho Arts Council seeking proposal for new mural based on Big Spring Park

May 25—NEOSHO, Mo. — The Neosho Arts Council is seeking design proposals for a mural to be installed at Central Campus in Neosho.

Artists are being asked to present designs based on the theme "Big Spring Park: Past, Present, and Future."

The mural will be painted on panels before being installed at Central Campus, formerly Central Elementary School, which is on the hillside south of the park.

"By painting the mural on panels the artist will be able to paint at their home or studio and not be impacted by the weather," Serio said.

The finished mural will be 12 feet tall and 8 feet wide. The arts council is partnering with the Neosho School Foundation on the project.

Artists will need to submit their proposals by June 27.

"We are excited to add a new mural to town while featuring Neosho's historic Big Spring Park," Sarah Serio, president of Neosho of Arts Council, said in a statement. "We are fortunate as a community to have this space for everyone to enjoy."

The city purchased the land for Big Spring Park in 1903.

"The arts council has been holding community concerts in the park for several years now and every musician has been excited to perform on the Grecian stage," Serio said. "The stage was built in 1928 to hold performances and celebrations and almost 100 years later we are still gathering there for performances in the park."

The park also features a Grecian-themed wading pool, a working flower-themed clock, and is home to ducks, trout and flowers.
