Nelly Furtado's robotic silver mesh cut-out bodysuit is giving sci-fi chic

It has been quite a 2024 awards szn. From the Golden Globes kicking things off back in January to the Oscars a few short weeks ago, we'd just about gotten over the *very* daring after-party 'fits from the likes of Kylie Jenner in a subtly see-through high-shine gown and Paris Jackson wearing a totally transparent mesh dress with hip-high leg slits.
But with the JUNO Awards taking place last night [24 March] to honour achievements in Canadian music from the last year and none other than '00s icon Nelly Furtado hosting the show, consider us dialled fully back into the glitz and glamour. Especially on the fashion front, with Nelly making no less than five (!!) outfit changes throughout the evening.
Despite arriving on the red carpet in a strappy maroon sequinned gown, the singer quickly upped the ante with her first change of the evening: a silver cut-out mesh bodysuit that served all kinds of sci-fi chic.
Featuring crystal embellishments, see-through panels, mirrored detailing, chain adornments and more, the design consisted of a high-neck silver cropped top and matching hotpants with a mesh loin-cloth style addition worn over a nude bodysuit. Nelly donned the ensemble to perform a medley of some of her greatest hits (hello 'Man Eater', 'Promiscuous' and 'I'm Like a Bird' – so. many. bangers.) initially wearing a cropped silver biker jacket over the 'fit before removing it mid-way as part of the choreography.
It was definitely giving suggestions of the vintage Mugler robot metal bodysuit Zendaya wore to the Dune: Part Two premiere last month.
Nelly completed the look with silver over-elbow gloves and iridescent heeled ankle boots, adding sparkly oversized hoop earrings. Having worn her hair down in a bouncy blowout on the carpet, she pulled it into an elegant updo for the performance.
As well as making further changes into a second maroon sequinned dress, this one with a roll neck and long sleeves, plus a black and white optical illusion dress with tassel detailing, our second favourite look of Nelly's from the evening was a strapless red dress with two large torso cut-outs and decorated with silver rivets all over.
We knew she would kill it on the red carpet after her backless moment at the VMAs last September, but this is next level.
