Neith Nyer RTW Spring 2018

Designer Francisco Terra’s upcycling and DIY bent continued to infuse this collection full of contrasts and mash-ups — think young-at-heart silhouettes and lots of skin. A see-through jacket was paired with an asymmetric, ruffled, buttoned skirt, while a T-shirt was overlaid with a sheer, printed ruched tube dress. Deconstructed denim, lace and PVC abounded.

Terra, who has worked at Carven and Givenchy, said that his late sister, who passed away at 18 years of age, was the inspiration for this collection. He gathered impressions of her pillow-filled, dried flower-strewn, pastel-colored bedroom and merged them with what he imagined Miss Petticoat, the illustrated children’s character, might be like as an adult.

“This show is a playful ode to life and memories,” the show notes read.

It was also a showcase for Terra to display a deft sartorial hand, with some finely crafted pieces like an oversized pink suit or belted trenches. The santiag boots with tassels, however, often deflected attention from the clothes in a collection that already had a lot going on.
