Neil deGrasse Tyson apologizes for 'unhelpful' tweet reacting to mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton

Neil deGrasse Tyson is apologizing for a tweet he posted after the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton ignited outrage after he suggested that mourners were letting their "emotions respond more to spectacle than to data." The astrophysicist issued his apology via Facebook saying that his message was intended to "help shape conversations and reactions to preventable ways we die." However, many did not see his tweet in that light and called the scientist "tone-deaf and cold."
