NCIS: Los Angeles is coming to an end.

The long-running procedural drama has been running since 2009, but will air its final ever episode in May, with its season 14 finale now serving as its overall series finale.

CBS president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement (via TheWrap): "For 14 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles has been a stalwart of our lineup with characters who were a joy to watch.

"It’s no surprise this show succeeded as a global franchise. From day one, the cast, producers and crew were amazing Network/Studios partners, and their teamwork, talent and spirit vividly came through on the screen.

"We are so grateful for the collaboration and remarkable run of these treasured members of our CBS family, and plan to give them the big send-off they and their fans deserve."

Showrunner R Scott Gemill added: "Our crew has grown to be a true family, and their hard work and dedication has been fundamental to our success year after year.

"My deepest gratitude to the cast members, who have brought our characters to life with their impassioned performances – thank you for your talent, professionalism and continuous enthusiasm. And to our loyal viewers who loved our characters and followed their journeys, thank you. We look forward to delivering an end to the series that is both satisfying and does justice to these beloved characters."

When the show comes to an end, it will have aired 322 episodes, making it CBS' fifth longest-running show. It averages 6 million viewers per episode.

LL Cool J, who plays Special Agent Sam Hanna, referenced the recent NCIS franchise crossover episode when reacting to the news on social media, and noted that it was "the perfect time to end @NCISLA on top!", adding that he is looking forward to continuing working with the network on future projects.

Calling the opportunity a "dream", Daniela Ruah shared an emotional tribute to her time on the show: "From season 1 to season 14, from 24 years old to 39, it has been an absolute dream. So many feelings to process and too many words to say. I will save them for a later date… I'm so so grateful to have been a part of this NCIS:LA family. The show lasted this long because of all of you."

Meanwhile, Caleb Castille, who has played Special Agent Devin Rountree since season 11, said of the news: "Incredibly sad about the news that @NCISLA won't be coming back to give you guys another season but man what an amazing accomplishment…14 seasons!

"Shoutout to the best fans and crew in the world! I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity. Special Agent Devin Rountree signing off."
