Oh, okay, it’s going to be like that, NCIS?

The CBS show is known for its surprises, and its latest was a true shocker. In season 18, episode 7, the crime drama revealed its latest unexpected death and it’s a doozy: Jimmy Palmer’s wife, Breena, passed away during the jump to the current pandemic time period.

The sad news is explained during the opening moments of “The First Day.” McGee (Sean Murray) praises Jimmy (Brian Dietzen) for working and parenting his kids all on his own. Then Jimmy confirms he “lost Breena” after telling his co-workers his mom moved in to help with the family. “I called in a lifeline,” he said. We’re not crying, it’s allergies!

Of course, Palmer tried to keep a positive attitude, almost to an alarming degree. But his friends knew he was going through a tough time, especially because he couldn’t hold a memorial for Breena (Michelle Pierce). But then Gibbs confronted Palmer, and they had a heart-to-heart that ended in a very emotional retelling of his last moments with his wife. Including how he wrote a letter that she was never able to read. They hugged, Jimmy later read his letter out loud for the team, and it was officially all too much.

Okay, this time we’re crying. And so is everyone else. The tears were flowing on Twitter, with people saying Jimmy’s loss “broke my heart” and that they couldn’t believe the plot twist.

“NCIS really said ‘Okay who's the happiest character with least trauma right now? Jimmy? Okay let's fix that,'” one person wrote. True!

The NCIS franchise is known for unexpected exits. Just a few episodes ago, everyone thought McGee might be leaving! But this one really hit hard.
