If you're currently settling in on the couch preparing to catch a new NCIS episode tonight, you may want to rethink your plans.

Despite season 18 briefly returning after the holiday season for a few episodes on January 19, January 26 and February 9, it looks like the show is once again going on another hiatus — in other words, there will not be a new episode of NCIS on tonight.

When we left off, Jimmy (Brian Dietzen) was struggling to cope with the death of his wife, Breena (Michelle Pierce). Meanwhile, the last season 18 episode also marked the beginning of Jack (Maria Bello)'s eventual departure from the scripted series. Now, we'll have to wait to see what Jack's next chapter will entail as she seeks to establish a better work-life balance.

So when is NCIS coming back to CBS in 2021?

Right now, the newest season 18 episode of NCIS isn't scheduled to be released until March 2, 2021.

Though CBS hasn't offered a full explanation for the show taking another break, the temporarily pause likely has to do with coronavirus case numbers in Los Angeles Country prompting production delays. Of course, NCIS is hardly the only show that has had to start and stop due to COVID-19 — popular scripted series such as This Is Us on NBC and Grey's Anatomy on ABC have also experienced filming complications caused by the ongoing pandemic.

While we're bummed about having to wait a few more weeks for another episode to air, it's good to hear that the cast and crew are taking necessary safety precautions. We're more than positive that the wait will be worth it come March 2.
