Brace yourselves, fans of NCIS. Season 20 will be back with new episodes soon — it just won't be tonight as some might have expected.

For the past two decades, folks have tuned in to CBS to watch their favorite federal agents solve high-level crimes for the U.S. Navy. Though the last two seasons came with big changes, like Mark Harmon's season 19 departure and the show regularly participating in crossover episodes with NCIS: Hawai'i, the drama returned its focus back to the current team as of late. Most recently, many fans have been itching to see Parker (Gary Cole), Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), Knight (Katrina Law) and their fellow team members on their screens once more. But after a heart-pumping episode on April 10, viewers have been concerned about when new episodes will air again and finish the current season.

Despite the fact that its sister series NCIS: Los Angeles aired a new episode this week, it won't be the same for the original iteration in the popular franchise. According to a report from Hello! Magazine, the CBS drama is on hiatus, meaning NCIS will not air a new episode tonight.

When is NCIS coming back with new episodes?

NCIS will return to CBS on Monday, May 1 at 9 p.m. ET. The news of the show's hiatus coincides with the schedule of NCIS: Hawai'i, which tends to follow its footsteps with new episodes the same night. But folks shouldn't be too worried, as both will be back to round out their subsequent seasons before heading into production on a whole new set of episodes this fall.

As for why NCIS: Los Angeles is on a different schedule than the other two, it's due to the fact the series is ending in May after 14 seasons on the air. With this in mind, IMDB reports that another episode will air on April 23 before taking some time off before final goodbyes early next month.

For those wondering exactly what to expect from the Washington, D.C. members of NCIS, Wilmer actually gave some insight earlier this month. In an Instagram video posted on April 7, he told viewers to expect a new side to the unit, especially as he showed off wearing an orange jumpsuit ahead of the season finale.

"I am incredibly proud of the episode we just shot," he said in the short clip. "Our season finale is out of control, and it's something the show has never done before."

Wilmer continued: "Really excited about all the new storylines, all the new things, all the new operations and all the new turns and twists the show is gonna take all these characters on."

Well, if Wilmer is excited about where NCIS is going, the return back to the air will only be that much sweeter.
