Update, May 26, 2:57 p.m. ET:

Emily Wickersham, who has portrayed Ellie Bishop on NCIS for eight seasons, confirmed she is leaving the CBS show.

The actress penned an emotional message following the season 18 finale of NCIS, making it clear that she won't be returning for season 19. In full, her caption reads:

Hangin this hat and jacket up. What a great ride it’s been.
This cast, this crew, are top notch. I can’t say enough kind words about this group that I’ve had the pleasure of working with for close to 8 years now and 172 episodes later. This business is finicky and weird and consistency is a rarity. I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a show where I got to show up and act and laugh and learn with wonderful people. A moment in time I surely won’t forget. Thank you CBS and NCIS for including me in a part of television history.
Time goes fast.
Eat it up but chew slowly. ❤️

NCIS fans were ready to have a word with Special Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law) after she sat at Gibbs (Mark Harmon)'s desk in last night’s episode. But this quickly became the least of their worries when faced with the reality that Ellie (Emily Wickersham) might be ready to walk away from the Washington D.C. office forever.

Following the closing credits, a trailer for the NCIS season 18 finale was shared on YouTube. In the 20-second promo video, Ellie faces speculation from her team when she is implicated in an old NSA leak. While there are differing opinions about whether or not she was involved, Ellie stands her ground that she’s innocent. But even so, she turns to Gibbs to learn more about rule 91, which he describes as, “When you decide to walk away, don’t look back.”

Understandably, these words from Gibbs were enough to get fans thinking that Ellie could leave the NCIS team. This idea, on top of seeing a glimpse of her and Nick (Wilmer Valderrama) finally kiss in the preview clip, sent many folks spiraling in the YouTube comments section. As viewers know, Nick and Ellie supporters, known as #Ellick shippers, have been waiting for this moment for some time now.

“Finally! They kissed! But please! Don't let Bishop leave! That would be too much for one season,” one person wrote. “Ellie cannot leave after Ellick kiss! It's impossible 😭😭😭,” another added. “I can’t wait for the Ellick kiss. I hope it’s not a goodbye kiss please 😘😘🙏🙏,” a different fan said.

Others aren’t ruling out this possibility, citing a pattern they’ve seen in the hit crime drama series, most recently with Jack (Mario Bello)'s exit. “Seems history is repeating with Bishop and Torres like it did with Tony and Ziva and Gibbs and Sloan departing with a kiss. In-house relationships really do not work on this show,” a follower commented.

But some fans are trying to find the silver lining if Ellie does end up walking away. With news that the latest addition to the CBS franchise, NCIS: Hawaii, is underway, some think it could be a great opportunity for Ellie to move from the flagship show to the new series.

“Plot twist Bishop is leaving but to join the Hawaii team. Now that would be interesting,” a person wrote. “If Bishop is leaving, I hope it's to the NCIS: Hawaii spinoff. All the ELLICK fans are going to riot regardless if they don't get their shot at romance,” a viewer added.

Fingers crossed that Ellie’s name is cleared and she gets to share more special moments with Nick.
