When it comes to Tim McGee (Sean Murray) on season 18 of NCIS, fans need answers and they need answers now.

Shocking literally everyone, the premiere episode of season 18 saw Gibbs (Mark Harmon) unexpectedly shoot McGee from a sniper's perch. After wondering for months about what could've led to this turn of events, questions were answered in the CBS show's recent double-episode airing. To sum everything up, it turns out Gibbs had to shoot McGee to prevent him from getting on a plane full of explosives. By the end of January 19's second episode, though, McGee is in rough shape at the hospital, which is making a lot of worried fans ask themselves ...

... is McGee leaving NCIS in 2021?

It's hard to imagine NCIS without the special agent — and thankfully, it doesn't sound like we will have to during season 18. Despite the last episode leaving off on an eerie note, Sean told TVInsider.com that upcoming episodes will focus on the "aftermath" of the shooting. He also promised that McGee wasn't going anywhere.

"A lot of it is not necessarily just physical but emotional," the actor said. "Just wrestling with and coming to terms with — even in the situation of it being done to save your life — the fact that somebody so close to you, that's like a father figure to you, more so than even your real father was, shoots you."

In other words, fans should expect to see the dynamic between McGee and Gibbs change a bit in the following episodes and not necessarily for the better. Even still, at least fans can rest knowing that the two will likely and eventually come to an understanding. At least, that's what we hope.
