NCIS fans, there may be a new show to add to your watch list.

NCIS: Hawaii is currently in the works at CBS, according to People. The series has yet to be greenlit, as it's believed the broadcast network is still firming up details.

To be clear, the new show is not expected to be a spinoff from one of the other NCIS series like NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans, per Deadline. Instead, the drama will “follow a team of Naval criminal investigators who operate on the Hawaiian Islands,” reports Variety.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show “would likely shoot in Hawaii, where production is facing an easier path forward during the [coronavirus] pandemic.” What's more, the show would use the production base that was previously built for Hawaii Five-0.

NCIS: New Orleans showrunner Christopher Silber and executive producer Jan Nash are reportedly spearheading the project, alongside SEAL Team writer-producer Matt Bosack.

As folks may know, the original NCIS debuted in 2003. Now, after 18 seasons, it’s still the most watched drama TV series. NCIS: Los Angeles followed suit premiering in 2009 and is currently in its twelfth season. In 2014, NCIS: New Orleans joined the lineup, which is now up to season 7. If NCIS: Hawaii comes to fruition, and the existing NCIS series are all renewed, it’ll become the second drama franchise, behind Law & Order, to have four series airing at the same time.

Many took to Twitter to share their thoughts about having another NCIS series to watch. While some thought CBS might want to offer "more original content" instead of another NCIS program, others seemed intrigued. “This sounds very interesting,” one fan said. “Hope it happens,” another follower tweeted.

We’ll just have to stick around to see how this plays out!
