NCIS is looking different these days, and well into season 19 of the hit CBS drama, fans are still getting used to the new team. While many folks are hoping that Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will eventually return, others are keeping a close eye on Torres (Wilmer Valderrama).

On December 7, Deadline reported that Wilmer, who has played the special agent since 2016, has a new series in the works at The CW. Based on Richie Narvaez’s novel of the same name, Hipster Death Rattle tells the story of “a historically Latino neighborhood that’s falling victim to aggressive gentrification.” But when the “new hipsters” start dying one by one, the situation becomes a lot more complex.

Wilmer recently celebrated the exciting news on his Instagram. While many were thrilled, there was also immediate concern in the comments section about what this could mean for his NCIS character.

“Hope you don’t get so busy with production that you leave NCIS! 🤞,” one person wrote. “What about NCIS? 👀,” another added. “Oh my! 🤪Are you leaving NCIS or going to this show!? Do tell me,” a different fan said. “Hope Torres will stay in NCIS 😢 Love the character 😍,” a follower commented.

As far as we know, Wilmer will only be an executive producer for Hipster Death Rattle through his movie and TV production company WV Entertainment. This has been the plan since May 2020 when he renewed his first-look deal with CBS TV Studios. What's more, the Miami native is also on board to produce the family comedy called Mexican Beverly Hills.

That said, just a week after Wilmer’s latest project was announced, Deadline reported on December 14 that he is set to executive produce another TV series and act in it, as well. Turns out, Wilmer will be trading his NCIS hat for a black mask and cape to bring a Disney Zorro TV series to life.

Wilmer’s portrayal of Don Diego de la Vega and his alter ego, Zorro, will unfold in the traditional Pueblo de Los Angeles “but told in a very modern telenovela style," according to a press release. He’ll join the likes of actors Antonio Banderas and Sir Anthony Hopkins, who have both played the iconic character.

“Growing up, Zorro was the one character that made me, as a Latino, feel like I could be a hero. As an adult and a storyteller, I have a responsibility for the stories that I help bring to life,” Wilmer said in a statement. “To partner with Gary and Disney to bring Zorro back into the family after 60 years and be a part of the legacy for other children to know they too can be the heroes of their own stories is a dream come true.”

Now, whether or not this new role will impact Wilmer’s NCIS gig is unknown. But it’s important to note that no timeline has been shared for Zorro, so he might just be able to do both.
