The NBC Peacock Streaming Service: Everything You Need to Know

After much anticipation and a delayed start, the NBC Peacock streaming platform is finally here. (It launches today, July 15!) I know what you're thinking: Another streaming service? But this one may very well be worth your time. For starters, a version of the platform comes to you totally free. 

But I'll get to that in a second. In fact, I'll have the answers to key questions for you about Peacock, below. First, though, a brief synopsis about what Peacock actually is. Per a press release, it's a service that offers you NBC Universal content from the vault, including favorites like Parks and Recreation and The Office. (Unfortunately, the latter show won't be available for the July 15 launch, but the former will be.) “Peacock will deliver a world-class slate of exclusive originals, on-demand libraries of hit TV shows, plus critically acclaimed films from the vaults of Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation, Illumination, and Hollywood’s biggest studios,” a release reads.

So how do you get the service? And what are the subscription details? Here are the answers to some important questions: 

Where can I sign up for Peacock?

Click here to do that. There are three plans you can choose from: a free one (Peacock), which includes TV shows and movies; a $4.99-a-month plan (Peacock Premium), which also includes live sports, next-day access to NBC shows, and Peacock originals; and a $9.99-a-month plan (Peacock Premium Plus), which gives you everything commercial free. (Peacock's website notes, though, that a small amount of content will still include ads.)

What if you already have TV subscriptions?

Per Peacock's website, Peacock Premium will come at no additional cost "for all Xfinity Flex customers and Xfinity X1 customers who have a subscription to Xfinity Internet or Digital Starter TV, or equivalent."

What specific shows will be available on each plan?

You'll have to peruse on launch day for specifics, but Peacock is promising "thousands" of hours of content with its free plan, which is promising.
