Yesterday, news broke that Naya Rivera’s ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, and her sister, Nickayla, are living together to raise the late actress’s son, Josey. According to the Daily Mail, Ryan and Nickayla moved into a three-bedroom home—prompting a lot of highly inappropriate and thoughtless speculation about their relationship.

Nickayla seemingly responded to the reports on Instagram last night, asking for compassion and explaining that her priority at the moment is Josey. “In the darkest time of my life, the only thing that is important is my friends & family,” she wrote. “Showing up for my nephew, even though I can’t show up for myself. I’m not concerned with the ways things look because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure.”

She continued, “What matters most, I’ve learned, is to show compassion, not to judge others, and never take a moment for granted. I hope you all can do the same.”

A source tells Entertainment Tonight that Nickayla has been helping with Josey since Naya’s tragic death during a boating trip in July and that moving in with Ryan made the most sense to give Josey a sense of stability. And for what it’s worth, the source said there’s nothing romantic going on between the pair: “They simply share the same goal—to give Josey the best childhood possible and to raise him the best they can without Naya. They’ve also found comfort in one another because they understand what each other is dealing with and they know how exhausting it can be to be grieving in the public eye while trying to keep it together for Josey.”
