Glee star Naya Rivera has been reported as missing after her four-year-old son Josey Dorsey was found alone on a pontoon boat they rented to go swimming in Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. Hours after a search and rescue operation began, Robert Kovacik of NBC Los Angeles tweeted at 9:55 AM PST that Rivera was "presumed dead" according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. "Actress @NayaRivera is presumed dead, per @VENTURASHERIFF," he wrote. "The actress/singer and her four year old son were on a rented pontoon boat on #LakePiru and were swimming. The son got back on the boat, his mom did not. He was wearing a life-vest, she was not."

According to People, the boat that Rivera and her son had rented had been overdue for its return, and staff found it on the north side of the lake with just her son aboard, asleep. NBC Los Angeles reports that officials responded to reports of a boy being found alone on a boat at 4:48 PM PST.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department began a search and rescue operation for a possible drowning victim, deploying a dive team and air unit; they suspended the search for the night and will begin again today. "The missing person at Lake Puru has been identified as Naya Rivera, 33, of Los Angeles. SAR operation will continue at first light," the Sheriff's Department tweeted out at 10:39 PM PST.

Ventura County Sheriff's Department officials said no foul play was suspected, telling NBC Los Angeles that "this is considered to be a horrible accident."

Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Eric Buschow told reporters, according to the Los Angeles Times, that “we’re going on the belief that she did go in the water and we have not been able to locate her. So this may well be a case of drowning." They were able to identify Rivera because her wallet and identification were found on board the boat.

Rivera's son is "in good health,” Bushow said. “The family is going through a very traumatic time right now.”

Days before Rivera's boating trip, the actress posted on her Instagram about her son and the fragility of life. "just the two of us," she captioned a photo of them on July 7.
