National Weather Service Releases Storm Totals For Tahoe Ski Resorts

The biggest storm of the season for Tahoe is just wrapping up, with the occasional flurry providing refills as things wind down.

What started as a blizzard on Thursday morphed into road closures, dangerous conditions, and multi-day resort closures, ultimately hammering resorts across the region with with up to 10 feet of snow. See below for storm totals.

Sugar Bowl came out on top, with 126 inches of snow coming down in 4 days. Their conditions report shows that the resort's summit saw 14 inches overnight, with a 179 inch base.

Additionally, their forecast shows a 50 percent chance of snow showers today and a possible snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches.

Soda Springs CalTrans, short for The California Department of Transportation, reported 116 inches of snowfall in the area.

On March 3rd, over 100 vehicles became stranded along I-80, even after warnings were issued and people were told not to travel during the storm.

Mike Ram, driver with North Valley Towing, estimated even higher, telling ABC10 that North Valley Towing is "estimating 200 hundred cars that are stuck just from the other day."

I-80 reopened to passenger vehicles only with chain control in place around 10am on Monday. CalTrans reminds people to continue to use caution while driving, as some areas remain narrow due to snow and a lot of moving equipment as work is performed to continue to improve road conditions.

Kingvale CalTrans saw similar issues, and a similarly high amount of snow coming in at 106 inches. Highway 80 at Kingvale sits at 6095 feet, and snow showers in this area are likely to continue through today.

Palisades Tahoe comes in just under Kingvale CalTrans, at 93 inches over the 4 days. The resort was closed for multiple days, opening lifts again on Monday to the delight of packed crowds of skiers hoping for a proper powder day.

Due to the large snowfall accumulation, even with the wind-affected conditions, the resort issued deep snow safety tips ahead of opening their chairlift gates to the public.

Behind Palisades, was Dodge Ridge, which saw 89 inches of snowfall, and just behind them is Sierra Snow Lab at 75.2 inches.

Boreal, Eagles Lakes CalTrans, and Blue Canyon CalTrans came in at the bottom of the top, seeing less than 75 inches but still all above 30 inches (2.5 feet).

No matter where you were in Tahoe this weekend, it's safe to say you felt the effects of the intense storm. It wasn't just the snowfall--the wind and visibility was no laughing matter, either.
