National Road Trip Day kicks off summer travel season

JOPLIN, Mo. (KSNF) — On the Friday before Memorial Day, drivers from across America come together to celebrate National Road Trip Day.

Memorial Day — a time to honor our fallen veterans — is also considered the unofficial kickoff of the summer travel season, with more than 38 million Americans expected to hit the road over the long weekend, visiting friends and family while paying tribute to our American heroes.

National Road Trip Day was conceived by Pilot Flying J — the largest travel center operator in North America — and it was officially declared as such in 2019.

Pilot kicks off every summer with National Road Trip Day with special deals: This year, Pilot is celebrating the summer driving season with a discount for guests.

Starting now, and all summer long, Pilot will be offering 10 cents off every gallon of gas so drivers heading out for their three-day weekend quick trips can save a little at the pump. There are over 800 Pilot travel centers across the U.S.
