Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent always deliver incredible makeovers, and we’re exclusively revealing one of their latest transformations: a home for a veteran family. The HGTV duo teamed up with Behr and The Jennifer Hudson Show to create stylish-yet-hardworking spaces for the busy family, and they’re packed with inspiration.

For the home refresh, Berkus and Brent focused on the living room and playroom. The living room caters to the grown-ups. On the walls, Behr’s Tranquil Gray paint is “a delicate taupe/greige shade that makes the room feel calm and is a perfect backdrop,” the experts tell House Beautiful. The room is outfitted in neutral furnishing and accents including a charcoal Crate & Barrel sectional and warm taupe swivel chairs. A custom ottoman by Sidotti Decor was fashioned from a kilim rug by David Ariel Rugs for an elevated touch. “Mom Renee loves a ‘glam’ look, so we incorporated that into the living room by adding brass and gold finishes and crystal light fixtures,” they add.

The playroom called for two versatile neutrals: Behr’s Even Better Beige on the walls and Behr’s 2023 Color of the Year Blank Canvas on the doors and trim, both from the paint company’s designer collection. The room’s showpiece is a storage and extendable table from Pottery Barn that they painted a colorful block pattern. A house-shaped chalkboard and cozy banquette round out the spirited space. The kid-centric room also maintains soft edges and features high-performance fabrics to prevent wear and tear while enforcing a comfortable atmosphere.

Now, the parents can embrace their timeless living room as the kids tap into their imaginations in the playroom. And if you’re thinking about giving your own home a refresh using paint, here's a pro tip from the experts: “Always consider the lighting in the room,” says Berkus and Brent. “We recommend putting painting samples on the wall to see how the color reads throughout the day as the light changes.”

There you have it! Don’t be afraid to mark up your wall before you completely coat it. It'll ensure you select the perfect color. Not to mention, it'll save you time and energy.
