Natalie Portman returned to the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday after years of not attending, and she grabbed everyone's attention with her grand entrance.

What's even more impressive and has people calling Portman the best-dressed star at this year's festival was her jaw-dropping gown, which has a surprising history.

Portman, 41, showed up to the red carpet premiere of her film May December in a strapless white dress with ombre petal skirts.

While the dress is gorgeous, many fashion fans were in awe simply because it's a re-creation of the iconic 'Junon' dress designed by Monsieur Dior in 1949. Dior ambassador Maria Grazia Chiuri created the gown Portman wore for the event.

One person wrote on Twitter in response, "THIS IS AN INSANE PULL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Natalie Portman wearing the iconic Christian Dior 'Junon' gown from Fall/Winter 1949 at the Cannes film festival."

Fans responded with comments like "she's iconic" and "actual real life fairy princess."

While some initially thought that it was the original dress made in the 1940s, one pointed out that it was a replica, noting, "Fun fact: Natalie Portman is wearing a replica, which is very sensible because the sequins on the original are made of gelatin!"

Quite a few people also thought of Portman's performance in the film Black Swan, for which she won an Academy Award, after seeing the dress, with a fan tweeting excitedly, "OMG IT REMINDS ME OF BLACK SWAN."

The awe and amazement continued: "natalie portman won. i couldn’t have even hoped for something like this to happen like my jaw is on the floor."

"Yall don’t understand, this is one of the most important and influential dress of ALL TIME," said another.

A different fan wrote, "Natalie has been the Miss Dior ambassador for over a decade. If anyone deserves to have a custom replica of one of Dior’s most iconic dresses made just for them, it’s her. I absolutely love this moment for her."

Portman has been the face of Dior's fragrance, Miss Dior, since 2011. Because of this, she often wears Dior designs to various industry events, but this particular look has clearly won the hearts of onlookers like no other has before.
