In a galaxy far, far away — OK, it was the Golden Globes, but that still feels far away to us non-celebrities — something absolutely magical happened. Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise met his movie “mom” Natalie Portman, who played Padmé Amidala.

“Now I have finally met my ‘mother’, thanks to the @goldenglobes,” Hamill wrote on Instagram. He also shared an amazing photo of his and Portman’s meeting, as he stands next to her in a velvet tux, and she looks like a queen in a sparkly silver gown. (She also shared the photo on her Instagram story.)

For those who need a quick refresher, Hamill was in the original Star Wars trilogy, which are chronologically the fourth, fifth, and sixth movies, which first premiered in 1977. Portman was in the second Star Wars trilogy, which are chronologically the first, second, and third movies, which first premiered in 1999. While Luke Skywalker famously met his dad Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back — prompting that famous, “Luke, I am your father” line — the Jedi never met his mom, as she died after giving birth to twins Luke and Leia (played by the late Carrie Fisher). And while Hamill has met both James Earl Jones (who voiced Darth Vader) and Hayden Christensen (who played his movie dad Anakin Skywalker), the actor had never met Portman until last night.

Of course, fans were obsessed. “they’ve never met previously??? no way ?!?” one person wrote.

“Luke, she is your mother,” another quipped. Someone else said, “How has this not happened til now 😭.”

“this is my roman empire,” another person commented.

Hamill also posted the photo on Twitter, where one person jokingly wrote, “seems to have gone better than your meeting with your father.”

Hamill and Portman are both parents themselves. Hamill shares Nathan, 44, Griffin, 40, and Chelsea, 35, with wife Marilou York.

The Black Swan star has kids Aleph, 12, and Amalia, 6, with husband Benjamin Millepied. In an interview with British Vogue in 2016, she opened up about the importance of making time for herself as a mom.

“Give yourself a break — literally and figuratively,” she told the outlet. “We all hold ourselves to such a high standard and it’s a constant balancing act. If you have one bad day, don’t let it define you. There’s always tomorrow. I also think it’s important to carve out time for yourself. It’s easy to forget that but it’s so important.”

Seeing Portman meet her Star Wars “son” Hamill proves that The Force really does exist in real life. This was a reunion that was a long time coming!

You might be surprised at whose kids have famous celebrity godparents!
