Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied Divorce After 11 Years of Marriage

Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied have divorced after 11 years of marriage, People reported on March 8.
The actor quietly filed for divorce from the choreographer eight months ago, and the divorce was finalized last month in France, where Portman and Millepied live with their children, son Aleph, 12, and daughter Amalia, 7.
After news outlets reported that Millepied had an affair last summer, the subsequent public speculation and media frenzy that descended upon their personal lives took a toll on Portman.
“It was initially really tough for her, but her friends rallied around her and helped get her through the worst of it,” a source close to the couple told the outlet. “Natalie is coming out of a really tough and painful year, but she’s come out the other side of it stronger and is finding joy in her family, friends, and work.”
Portman and Millepied are now focused on adapting to the “new normal” for their two kids.
“Her biggest priority has been ensuring a smooth transition for her children,” the source said. “She and Ben really love their kids and are equally focused on being the best co-parents they can be. Nothing is more important.”
While neither have publicly commented on the rumors of infidelity, Portman did express her distaste for the intense interest in her personal life in an interview with Vanity Fair last month.
“It’s terrible, and I have no desire to contribute to it,” she said.
She explained that, having been in the public eye since childhood, she puts a very high value on privacy. “I got very protective of it very early on,” Portman said. “I chose a different name when I started, which was kind of an interesting way that I separated identities. I would get upset if someone at school called me Natalie Portman. I was like, ‘If you know me, you know me as Natalie Hershlag at school.’ It was kind of an extreme bifurcation of identity that I’ve tried to integrate a little bit more as an adult.”
As a mother, her mindset has changed, she added. “As I started having kids and a family, I started realizing that maybe it was not helpful to be like, ‘There’s two of me.’ I have many interactions during my day as a public person. To exclude that from my experience is not real.”
