Earlier this year, Naruto's late father, the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, was chosen by fans as the top choice in the worldwide character popularity poll "Narutop 99," in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Naruto franchise. Topping the poll, creator Masashi Kishimoto is now set to draw an original short manga centered around Minato.

Minato Namikaze's one-shot manga will be featured in this year's 33rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine set to realize July 18. The 33rd issue this year also marks the 55th anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump. The upcoming release will serve as the first one-shot from Masashi Kishimoto in seven years, the last being Naruto Gaiden ~Michita Tsuki ga Terasu Michi~ (Naruto Side Story ~The Path That the Waxing Moon Illuminates~) in April 2016.
