During the second impeachment trial against President Donald Trump, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made headlines for an unexpected reason.

The politician arrived at impeachment proceedings at the House of Representatives on Wednesday wearing a navy mock-neck dress with a slit collar and a glittering necklace to match; she then finished off the look with a set of classic round-toe pumps. While the ensemble appeared like typical fare for a formal event, social media savants were quick to notice the resemblance between the outfit yesterday and Pelosi’s outfit from President Trump’s first impeachment trial that began in December 2019.

As seen in images from the first day of impeachment trials on Dec. 18, 2019, the navy dresses from both hearings include a similar silhouette and even featured the same accessories sans the face mask. Face masks were not mandated during the time of the first impeachment trials against President Trump. Her gold brooch was also missing in the second debut of the outfit; the brooch came in the form of the Mace of the United States House of Representatives, a legislative symbol of power that Pelosi also wore during the 2019 State of the Union address.

And, as it turns out, Pelosi’s office confirmed to MSNBC that the Speaker of the House did, in fact, wear the same outfit combination for both impeachment trials, as shared on Instagram.

The House of Representatives started its impeachment trials for President Trump following the riots that took place at the United States Capitol last Wednesday. The articles of impeachment were introduced by House Democrats under the charge of “incitement of insurrection.” As the House has now officially voted to impeach President Trump on Wednesday afternoon, the decision now moves to the Senate, who must confirm the charges with a two-thirds vote.

The hearings yesterday are part of the second impeachment trials held against President Trump — the first took place from December 2019 to February 2020. The initial case ended in a Senate acquittal of the president on both impeachment articles.
